Lighting the halls of perspective…

The quote below makes for a good thought prompt. How can the way we act transform our outlook on life?

“I was in darkness, but I took three steps and found myself in paradise. The first step was a good thought; the second, a good word; and the third, a good deed.”–Unknown

This quote has been attributed to several people, Friedrich Nietzsche among them, but I couldn’t decipher who it was with any accuracy. The quote highlights existentialist thinking. There is power in individual choice of mindset. One can move from a state of darkness (or existential despair) to a state of light, (or fulfillment/purpose).

Existentialists believe that our chosen actions define our existence, and this quote underscores that thinking. If we find ourselves in darkness do we stay still? Or do we move toward where we think there is light? Meaningful change begins with positive thoughts, words and deeds. It’s up to each individual to find their own paradise by stepping out of the darkness toward what they value as “good.”
